Monitoring GDAC content
The Argo GDAC content monitoring is updated once a week.
Active floats
An Argo float is active if it has transmitted data within the last 30 days.
The counting is done by DAC (Data Assembly Center). There are 11 DACs worldwide that process Argo floats data and distribute it to the GDAC (Global Data Assembly Centre).
All floats
Number of floats per DAC, deployed from 1997 to date.
Histogram of vertical profiles
Annual distribution of vertical profiles carried out by Argo floats. A vertical profile is a measurement of temperature and salinity at different depths in the ocean, down to 2000 meters or more. Some floats measure additional parameters such as oxygen, chlorophyll, pH, nitrate, and optics.
Histogram of profiles percent
Identical to the previous graph, but in percentages by year and DACs.
Histogram of data modes
Argo float vertical profiles are processed and distributed by the DACs in real-time mode (within a few hours), then in delayed-mode (within a few months) by their scientific lead (PI - Principal Investigator).
Histogram of data modes percent
Identical to the previous graph, but in percentages.
The last 12 months map from Argo index file
This animated map clearly illustrates the global coverage of the Argo observation network. The floats are colored by DAC. Click on “full screen” for a better visualization.
